Project Blueprints

A Project Blueprint captures the services and resources from an existing project so you can reuse that configuration as a starting point for new projects.

Creating a Blueprint from a Project

If you have permission to create blueprints, you can create a Blueprint from a project with an Approved or Won status. The Create Blueprint button appears in the project overview when those conditions are met.

When Release Project Blueprints V2 is off, clicking Create Blueprint opens a confirmation prompt. After confirming, you are taken to the blueprint edit page where you can:

  • Name (required): Give the blueprint a descriptive name.
  • Code (optional): Assign a short identifier for the blueprint.

Click Submit to save the blueprint’s details, then open the Services tab to review the services from the project:

  • Professional Services: Shows each service name, its quantity, and the assigned resource.
  • Managed Services: Shows each service name and its quantity.

Click a service row to make adjustments, then click Submit to save that service.

With Release Project Blueprints V2 on, enter a Blueprint Name and select the items to include in the Create Blueprint from Project dialog, then click Create Blueprint. The V2 editor uses Save to save changes.

The blueprint is now available in Settings > Content > Blueprints and can be applied to any future project.

Managing Blueprints in Settings

Navigate to Settings > Content > Blueprints to see all blueprints in your account. The classic list shows each blueprint’s Name, Code, and Tags. With Release Project Blueprints V2 on, the columns are Name, Services in Blueprint, and Tags.

Click a blueprint to edit it. The edit page has two tabs:

  • Blueprint: Edit the blueprint’s name, code, and tags.
  • Services: View and manage the services included in the blueprint. Professional Services are shown with their Phase, Service name, Resource, and Quantity. Managed Services show the Service name and Quantity. You can add individual services using the buttons at the bottom of each table and remove them using the delete button on each row.

If your account has switched on Release Project Blueprints V2, the blueprint editor in Settings instead has the tabs General, Professional Services, Managed Services, Products, Resources, Governance, and Expense. A Version History tab also appears if you have permission to view audit logs.

Applying a Blueprint to a Project

You apply a blueprint from the Project Editor. On the Professional Services page of the default Project Editor, click Add a Service. In the dialog that appears, select Add Services from Blueprint. You will see a list of available blueprints with their names, services, and tags. Select a blueprint, then click Continue to Add (1) to review it. Click Apply Blueprint to add the services to your project.

Use the preview icon in Services In Blueprint to open a preview with Service Name, Qty, and Resource columns.

The services from the blueprint are added to your project. You can then modify quantities, resources, and language as needed for this specific project.

How Blueprints Handle Services

Blueprints retain links to standard services in your account’s settings. Classic blueprints read each standard service’s current hours when they are applied, so a later change to those hours in Settings reaches projects created afterwards. V2 blueprints also store service attributes from the source project, such as quantities and hours, and apply the saved values; the catalog fills in only hours that were not saved.

Custom services (services that were created for a specific project rather than defined in Settings) are copied into the blueprint as new standard services so they can be reused.
